Kilimanjaro Orphans Centre

The Kilimanjaro Orphans Centre is located in Pasua/Moshi, Tanzania and was founded in March 2009 by Teacher Lazaro Edward. The NGO supports needy children and orphans, the most vulnerable members of our society, providing children with Residential Care, Education, positive spirit and Medical examination.

Residential Care means services such as food, clothing, accommodation, health care, social and psychological support. At the moment the centre accommodate 30 orphans (18 girls and 12 boys between the age of 3 to 9) and provide them with all necessary daily things. The children receive basic kindergarten education, preparing them to be able to attend Primary school from the age of 7 years on. All three months, medical examination of all children is carried out.

In 2009 the centre rented a piece of land on the slopes of Kilimanjaro where fruits and vegetables are grown. This produce is not only used to feed the kids, but also to generate income to run the centre in a sustainable way through vegetable and fruit sales. The centre also runs a small chicken farm with the same purpose.

Our Aim

A world without poverty, starvation and injustice seems to be difficult. However we won't surrender and we try to make the world at least a little bit better. Every single step is a sustainable step for the entire Tanzanian society.

To provide a safe place where orphans can stay and grow up like all other children with all common necessities of life and education opportunities so that they can become a self-confident and independent member of our society.

Our Mission

∙ We have to avoid to get the orphans become a loser of the growing economy
∙ With proper support we can fight against poverty
∙ We can avoid that orphans becoming street children with criminal intentions
∙ We can support the right of having free access to clean water
∙ We can supply with proper food
∙ We supply children with medication
∙ We support HIV victims to become common members of the society without any disadvantages or isolation in comparison to healthy children

Our Vision

We want to become a role model for the entire community how things can work and improve. To build an international network for particular support for Orphans Centers worldwide would be terrific.

Our history

Kilimanjaro Orphanage Centre was founded on 23/03/2009 with 7 registered children and three employees. About two weeks later we registered 17 more children and on April 24th we accepted 7 further orphans. Our plan is to expand the Centre in order to accommodate around 100 orphans due to the fact that the surrounding community needs help.

Please note that "Kilimanjaro Orphans Centre" and "Kilimanjaro Centre for Orphans and Street Children" (Kilicentre) are two distinct centres which are both being supported by the ZARA Charity.
